Since its first official rodeo in 1989, the Virden Indoor Rodeo and Wild West Daze has grown into one of Virden’s premier summer celebrations. What began as a humble local rodeo—following a few early iterations in the 1960s and ’70s—has become a four-day, town-wide festival celebrating our western heritage with pride.
In 2025, we’re proud to mark our 35th anniversary, having only paused twice due to COVID-19. Each year, the third weekend in August is known across Virden and the surrounding region as Rodeo Weekend—and for good reason!
What started with just a rodeo has evolved into a high-energy lineup that includes:
-
-
A 1,000-person dance
-
Additional barrel racing and tie-down roping events
-
Parade, pancake breakfast, and family fun
-
Demolition derby, car show, and much more
-
At the heart of it all is the rodeo—our marquee event. From its early days with just $400 in added prize money, it has grown into a $5,000 added money rodeo, attracting top semi-professional rodeo contestants from across Western Canada, the United States, and beyond.
Since 2012, guests have enjoyed the action from the comfort of our state-of-the-art indoor facility, featuring climate control, excellent sightlines, and premium sound—so you don’t miss a moment of the fast-paced excitement.
After 35 years, there truly is something for everyone at Virden Indoor Rodeo & Wild West Daze.
Join us the third weekend of August every year—we can’t wait to welcome you!
